Emotional Freedom Technique for Self Sabotage with Leigh-Ann Larson
Happy 2024! We are so excited to kick off the year by bringing Leigh-Ann Larson, LMHC back on the podcast to talk about Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as EFT or tapping. Tapping is a holistic practice that targets certain points in the body, that when "tapped," will move energy in the body and change neuropathways in the brain. Rachael volunteers as tribute in this episode, as Leigh-Ann brings her though a personalized EFT session surrounding Rachael's New Years resolution.

Emotional Freedom Technique Script for Self-Sabotage
If I [change of behavior],
- If I stop eating sugary foods and drinking hot chocolate,
- If I stop smoking,
I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.
Even though I’m afraid of [fear],
- Even though I’m afraid my identity would change and life wouldn’t be as fun,
- Even though I’m afraid that I would not feel as confident,
I accept who I am and how I feel.
I’m afraid of [another related fear].
- I’m afraid of missing out on fun foods.
- I’m afraid of feeling physically uncomfortable.
What if [how life would change negatively]?
- What if I’m not just fun to hang out with or eat out with anymore?
- What if I’m not included with my smoking buddies anymore?
I’m afraid that [another fear].
- I’m afraid that my identity will be changed.
- I’m afraid that I won’t fit in.
What if [another fear]?
- What if people really see that I’m not a fun person?
- What if I don’t feel confident anymore?
What if [outcome of fear]?
- And they would prefer not to hang out with me because I don’t eat fun foods?
- And my relationships are ruined because I don’t smoke?
I’m afraid that [fear].
- I’m afraid that I won’t be fun.
- I’m afraid that I won’t be in control.
What if [another fear]?
- What if food is just boring and I am boring?
- What if smoking is the only positive trait about me?
What if [another fear]?
- What if my change in identity makes life dull?
- What if my change in identity makes life lonely?
What if [another fear]?
- What if people really don’t see me the same way they see me now?
- What if people really don’t see me the same way they see me now?
Acknowledge the resistance.
- I really, really don’t want those changes to happen.
- I really, really don’t want those changes to happen.
I am afraid of [fear].
- I am afraid of missing out.
- I am afraid of feeling uncomfortable.
Even though I’m afraid,
And I [current belief that promotes no change in behavior],
- And I really don’t think water is as fun as hot chocolate,
- And I really don’t think my friends would accept me,
I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.
Even though I’m afraid of [fear and changed behavior],
- Of FOMO and this identity of loving fruits and vegetables and water,
- Of losing my friendships and quitting smoking,
I accept who I am and how I feel.
Deep breath in, deep breath out.
